  1. Extended storage limits and other performance improvements<\/li>\n
  2. Can support volumes with sizes up to 1 exbibyte (EiB) and files with sizes up to 16 tebibytes (TiB)<\/li>\n
  3. Traditional block mapping scheme replaced by extents used by ext2\/3 filesystems.<\/li>\n
  4. It is backward compatible with ext3 and ext2.<\/li>\n
  5. It uses a filesystem performance technique called allocate-on-flush.<\/li>\n
  6. Limit of subdirectories is increased to 64,000 with \u201cdir_nlink\u201d feature.<\/li>\n
  7. It uses checksums in the journal, it can safely avoid a disk I\/O wait during the journaling process and improving performance slightly.<\/li>\n
  8. As granularity of second-based timestamps becomes insufficient for modern computers. So ext4 provides timestamps measured in nanoseconds.<\/li>\n
