RULE BASED EXPERT SYSTEM FOR SELECTING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY

RULE BASED EXPERT SYSTEM FOR SELECTING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY

This article is about “RULE BASED EXPERT SYSTEM FOR SELECTING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY” in which i have attached a reference research paper with the courtesy of “jatit.org”. I have studied it and listed few important points below.

(Download reference research paper)

  1. Goals of this Research paper:
Goal of this research paper is to introduce a facility in shape of SDM-ES to avoid unpleasant situation by selecting an inappropriate SDM for software development. Such ES is presented to focus on importance of appropriate selection of SDM instead of practicing the same SDM for every project, which can lead to a project failure.
  2. How the goals identified has been achieved in this research paper:
Goals are identified by presenting a comparative and analytical view of different SDMs. Few frequently used SDMs discussed in details with their suitable usage and respective pros and cons. Then a good tabulated comparison provided to achieve goal where iterative SDM and extreme programming SDM mentioned. Reader can have a better idea that how much a project can be affected if a wrong SDM will be selected for development.
  3. Experimental results of this research paper:
Experimental results are presented with the help of important methodology selection criteria. In which project time, clarity of user requirements, familiarity with technology, system complexity, system reliability and schedule visibility.
SDM-ES provides a friendly selection based on these important points for two selected SDM, iterative and extreme programming. The important part of the results is based on “Whenever a methodology is assigned 0 zero under any selection criterion for being a poor choice, and then it can never be listed as a suggested solution”. Although SDM-ES will ask the questions from us but still it will sense that in which part we are sure and have adequate information to start with.
  4. Future work that has been identified in this research paper:
In this research paper the author talked about future work that this ES can be improved in the same way as it is based on object oriented database model so a better prototype expert system can be developed with more methodologies and selection criteria. Interface can be improved and selection criteria with prioritization.
